Takaa’chuwaki
”The Force can have a strong influence on the weak-minded.”
Name: Takaa’chuwaki
Nickname: Tak
Age: 397
Gender: Male
Species: Wookiee
Birth Place:Kashyyyk
Height and Weight: 190Kg || 2,0 meters
Faction: Light
Rank/Occupation: Jedi Master // High Council Life-term
”They say the Force can do terrible things to a mind. It can wipe away your memories and destroy your very identity.”
Appearance:
Tak, for the most part looks like any other wookiee, tall and furry, He possess all the traits that you’d expect a normal wookiee to posses. However, being a Jedi, he cannot have himself appear as a savage, as many perceive his people, in front of diplomats or other Jedi, or simply people that he needs to make feel safe. Because of that, and because of his ethics and personality, Tak is a well groomed and good looking wookiee, always dressed neatly and in a walk that presents the very essence of what it means to be a Jedi. Unlike most wookiees, who spend their lives not wearing clothes, Tak is forced both by the Jedi code and by his own beliefs to wear the Jedi outfit, because of that- you will often see Takeo sporting a beige shorts sleeved tunic, beige pants tucked into leather leg guards that start just underneath his knee and end at his ankle, leaving his feet exposed, underneath his dark brown Jedi Robe. He of course wears the utility belt, on which he usually carries his lightsaber. He has a single top knot behind his back, which is usually done to pull back the hair from his face to give a more civilized appearance.
Possessions: Aside from possessing the usual items a Jedi should have, a communicator, a breath mask, a lightsaber and food pills, Tak carries no other items.
Spoken and Understood Languages: Tak, being a wookiee only speaks the wookiee language, however he is capable of understanding many other languages- Basic, Twi’lek, Binary, Huttese, Mando’a and Durese, he is also capable of using telepathy to communicate with people that do not understand the wookiee language.
Personality: Tak is an old man, one of a generation passed. As a result, the current Jedi Master is a very stubborn and conservative leader, finding dislike or distaste in the changes he sees in the developing world around him - particularly those that adversely reflect on his own beliefs or ideals. He is unwilling to compromise on issues such as these; his pride and sense of self-worth and respect for the force and living things cause him to abhor the thought of accommodating those who disagree with him, and although if pushed or forced into cooperation - providing there is no other viable option - he will go along with it, he will spend the entire time expressing his displeasure or trying to explain someone the other available options.
Whenever asked why he so firmly clings to his old-fashioned attitude, Tak will argue that it is the duty of any self-respecting Jedi - no matter how skilled or unskilled they may be - to bear a strong and confident image in the face of danger, to bear respect for life and the force at all times, giving people a beacon of hope to look for. The Jedi’s ethics are based on this founding factor; that maintaining a firm, strong appearance will render any opposition meaningless. Tak believes that upholding his own honour and ideals for the force will prevent anybody from doubting his abilities - regardless of his old age - and that he will remain a respected Jedi until the end of his days. Though proud, his actions are not entirely altruistic; as far as he has seen for a long time, there were no possible replacements for him as the Battlemaster, nobody yet able-bodied enough to take care of the students to the same extent that he has, though when the time came he gave that position willingly. His long reign as a jedi has lead him to be quite the perfectionist in his job, and as such he believes that his decisions must only be what is best for the galaxy - hence his reluctance to appoint an heir to his position for now.
Despite - or maybe because of - his old age, Tak is willing to allow others to view him as senile or old, never trying to argue that he is not, merely attempting to change that view, though not often. His sense of independence stems from both his sense of dignity and his important position; he would consider it shameful to have anybody lend him aid, especially if the exhibition was made public, which would give people the impression that a Jedi such as he has grown senile or weak, which by the way he is. Tak's behavior is not lacking in any formal sense of etiquette, and though he has no qualms with others being openly comical or confrontational should something or someone disagree with them, he himself tries to propagate a more selfless and calm manner, filled with etiquette and respect for live and culture around him; often being the one to remind others that joking is best left for relaxation. Though not snobbish, his outspoken scorn is very often displayed towards those he considers unworthy - a characteristic that has not endeared him to those whose beliefs conflict or contradict his own.
To those he respects, Tak speaks in a friendly and supportive tone, radiating trust and inspiration, which makes him a beacon of hope for many of his villagers. Many often disagree with his strategies or find them crazy, even when Tak knows they will work and is a 100 % sure of it, he’ll never say anything and allow others to doubt him until they are proven wrong, because to the people around him his thought process seems senile and illogical. Although this seems to make him come across as cold or unfeeling, Tak is ultimately a realist when it comes to a course of action in desperate situations. He is an ultimate believer of the fact that the Jedi are protectors of peace, not soldiers.
His brusque nature ensures that he will always provide an answer to anything he may be asked; should the requested action or question not be agreeable to him, Tak will not hesitate to say so. However, he will very rarely insult someone out of spite or in a fit of rage - usually his insults are more indirect, or consequential of his opinion. On the other hand, should offense be taken, Tak is not one to apologies for what was said or done; to him, it is not plainly his problem, not unless an actual retaliatory response is made. Those who do talk back to the Jedi had best prepare for a long haul of conversation, as Tak will not back down if he can help it once in a confrontation. If you don't like it, that's tough: things were much stricter in his day anyway. As a result of their previous engagements in War, Tak harbors a deep-seated resentment for war; a dislike that is mirrored by many of the Jedi, due to the bad blood that remains in many of them. Tak is a lover of life, peace and tranquillity.
History:. Takaa’chuwaki was born in one of the smaller tribes that lived one the planet of Kashyyyk, his father was a warrior from the clan and because of that, he’d often leave the still cub Tak alone with his mother in the village. In those days, many of the local tribes fought for territory and power, often claiming the lives of many of the tribe’s men. Tak in his youth, was very small as a cub, both in height and in physique, he lacked the physical appearance of an actual wookiee warrior. The young lad barely knew his family, his father died while Tak was still a cub, barely the age of four and his mother was enslaved a year after that by the Czerka Corporation and taken somewhere to work as a slave. He was left in the care of the village chieftain, but in those days, the chieftains were busy occupying themselves with training new warriors and making their tribes stronger to fight against other tribes and the Czerka threat. But, due to his small size and youth, Tak was unfit to be trained or cared for by the chieftain, because they believed he could never be a powerful warrior compared to other wookiees. He was, an outcast, though he lived with his tribe, none of them saw him as their own; this only became harsher when the young lad began developing force abilities.
In his youth, Tak was incredibly potent and naturally talented with the force, often sensing approaching threats and levitated small objects when he was bored, due to the size of his small village, who had seen very little of the outside world, he was shunned for his abilities even more as no one besides the chieftain understood them. The chieftain, tried to explain to some of the villagers what the force was and ultimately failed and Tak was often the odd one out, the outcast that the whole village shunned. It was at this time that the Jedi Council had begun looking into what Czerka was doing and kashyyyk and often sent knights and masters to investigate Czerka’s activities and often the Jedi would get involved in the business of the wookiees, many tried to be diplomatic and help the villages seek peace, but many tried to attack Czerka ships and try to free slaves, something that often failed and ended in a Jedi’s demise. At this particular point of time, when Tak was five years old his village entered into a long lasting battle with another village. This battle took a course of several months and had devastated a lot of Czerka camps, landing zones and forest areas. The Jedi council sent an Aleena Jedi master by the name of Tsuruma Kumosi to investigate and try to mend the relationship of the two warring clans.
His arrival at Kashyyyk was incredibly hard. Upon landing, he was faced with a long battle with Czerka droids which refused him access to their landing docks, upon finally escaping into the forest, the master found himself in the middle of a battle field and through the utilization of many of his force powers he managed to split the two groups apart and convince one of the chieftains to retreat. Tsuruma, went to the other village and tried to convince the chieftain to pursue peace, when he eventually succeeded, Tsuruma travelled to Takaa’chuwa’s village and attempt to convince his chieftain the same. But, Tak’s chieftain would not see reason, he believed that a warrior’s honor was above everything else and that retreating, surrendering or pursuing peace was dishonorable and not something a real warrior would do. He believed, that his people had a warriors honor and will lay their lives for it. Tsuruma failed in persuading the chieftain and he told the master to go warn the other village that he will attack them in the morning and destroy them all. Tsuruma, fearing that he might do so, went to the other village to help them prepare for the attack. Tak was very intrigued by the Jedi as the chieftain had told him once about the, but only got a single chance to say hello as the master passed by him, without even a chance to ask about the Jedi.
It was in the night that Czerka came, they attacked with ships, droids and men, burning through their trees and huts, killing many of Tak’s villagers, but capturing even more of them, among those captured were the chieftain, who led his warriors into battle, they were all taken to a outpost and prepared to be sent off as slaves. Tak, seeing his village in ruins attempted to persuade his other villagers that they ask for help from their neighbouring village, but their refused, planning an attack of their own. Seeing that they would not listen to him, Tak went to the other village alone and was quickly capturing by their warriors and taken into the village. He requested to see the Jedi Master Tsuruma, who had agreed and when he came to see the boy, he quickly told the master everything that had happened, begging the Jedi master to save his villagers. It was then that Tsuruma felt the powerful presence of the force inside of the young boy. He quickly sensed the boys life, torment, sadness and isolation from his peers, yet still he wished to help them, he claimed that this was a good sign and was even more impressed when the boy told him he knew where they outpost was. The Aleena agreed to help and rushed off to have a diplomatic meeting with the Czerka officers; however when they opened fire on him, the Jedi drew his lightsaber and despite his small size quickly dispatched many droids and made his way into the containment area, freeing the wookiees and helping them battle the Czerka Corporation for freedom.
When the Jedi Master and the free villagers returned, the Chieftain told the Jedi that he was an excellent warrior and that his clan is in his debt. Tsuruma asked for the chieftain to stop the war with the other village and the chieftain, though reluctantly, agreed and promised to show compassion and search for peace. Tsuruma also told the chieftain how Tak had been the one to inform him about what had happened and in turn, the chieftain told Tsuruma that Tak could use the force. This only furthered Tsuruma’s theory that Tak was a force sensitive. As a final request, Tsuruma asked the chieftain to allow him to take Takaa’chuwa to the Jedi temple, where he would be trained in the ways of the force. The chieftain agreed, believing that it will be best for the boy. After a proper introduction between Tsuruma and Takaa’chuwa, Tak was explained where he was going and he was incredibly overjoyed and excited, he took the few belongings that he had and left with the Jedi master on his ship to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. When he arrived, the Jedi council hesitantly listened to Tsu’s request, believing that Tak, being the age of nearly seven was too old to join the Jedi learners. But, Tsu firmly and strongly advocated Tak being accepted into the order, telling the Jedi masters of his acts of kindness that he had shown and the stories of the force abilities that the boy possessed. Disregarding his age, many of the Jedi Masters believed that such a “savage” and “feral” species as the wookiees were dangerous to train among other children, children his age who were much smaller and physically weaker than him, despite Tak never being physically strong or that tall. Eventually he was accepted into a Jedi Order and placed among the other Jedi Initiates.
As he kept growing, Tak showed exceptional abilities in the force, being able to levitate small objects with minimal concentration by the time he was eight, something none of the other students were capable of. He had a high fondness for reading, spending a lot of time in the Jedi Archives studying and he had an even greater love for the force. He was just a natural. Maybe it was that that made him slightly arrogant and due to his wookiee nature, many still believed it was dangerous for him to be around other children, he like most young wookiee’s- possessed a short temper and was quick to anger. Because of this however, he was often a competitive initiate, which earned him only more praise ability wise. Tak was twelve when he became a padawan under the tutelage of Tsuruma. Tsuruma had agreed with the Jedi Council that he’d be the one to take the wookiee when he was of proper age to learn and so he did. They had not seen each other for about three years at that point and Tsuruma had not been well acquainted with the lad before and because of his wookiee personality and slight arrogance, their relationship was quite rocky at first.
Regardless, Tsuruma trained him well. He spent a year with the boy, teaching him many of the lightsaber forms the Aleena knew himself and teaching him a lot of force techniques. Seeing that the wookiee was big and moving quickly could be a problem for him, Tsuruma taught the boy force speed, a technique he quickly learned and adapted to his ataru fighting form. Aside from training, Tsuruma taught the boy philosophy and many things about life, he taught him the binary language of droids and was the first person to teach Tak of respect for life and standing up for what you believe in. Tsuruma always said that if you truly believe in something you cannot let others doubt it. At the age of thirteen Takaa’chuwaki and his master had their first mission, a mission to the planet of Nar Shadaa to investigate a recent outbreak of droid disappearances. This was the first actual mission on which the two bonded, despite Tak being somewhat of a arrogant lad, his master believed that he possessed traits that could one day make him an incredibly strong jedi and when the Aleena told the young wookiee this, Tak was surprised. He had never seen such faith placed in him and instantly his anger and arrogance disappeared, he changed heavily and became a friendlier person, attempting to gain the same type of faith from others.
Tak constructed his first lightsaber on Dantooine when he was 14; upon its construction it had a yellow blade. Many more missions followed, the two bonded even more and Tak continued growing into a real warrior wookiee. He had gotten taller, larger and more hairy, his master stood to his knees and Tak would often carry his master on his shoulder when they would walk around. His master instilled the virtuous of a real Jedi in him. Self-sacrifice, duty, love for life and peace, and above all- humility. Tak became a Jedi Knight at the age of 23 after a mission to Onderon, to help settle the incredibly grown threat of the beast wars that raged the planet. During this mission him and his master went out of the walls of Iziz and tried to convince the criminals and the beasts to stop attacking the city, however it was all for none and instead the two Jedi found themselves in a middle of a battle. After a long battle, Tak knew that he was useless, he saw a beast heading towards his master and was incapable of defending his master, the beast incapacitated him and his master was forced to fight alone. While Tsuruma killed many beasts and criminals they eventually overcame him and with a last breath the Jedi used beast control to have one of the beasts carry his Padawan to the outpost where he would be healed. Tsuruma did not make it out of that battle; he was eventually overrun and killed by the beasts.
Tak was incredibly depressed and angry to hear that his master was dead. When he was first told, he went into a rampage and ransacked the medical bay he was in. When he returned to the temple and informed them of his master’s death. They, seeing how much this whole experience had changed Tak, how much he has grown and seeing the scars on his body, decided that he had passed his knighthood trials and moved him to the rank of Jedi Knight. However, the death of his close friend and mentor had made a huge impact on the life of Tak, being a young lad, he knew this was the best time he’ll ever have to learn how to fight and if he did, he could protect himself and others. The battlemaster at the time saw his wookiee physique and power perfect for lightsaber combat and agreed to take the lad under his wing and teach him everything the master knew about lightsaber combat. It took a long time, twenty long years the wookiee trained in lightsaber combat, going on missions and personal training trips to various places across the galaxy, learning new languages and improving the techniques he learned from the battlemaster. After twenty years, Tak was regarded as one of the best lightsaber duelists in the order, having mastered all forms of lightsaber combat. He had learned of his shatterpoint ability, which combined with his now learned forms and abilities and physical strength along with his force mastery made him an incredibly powerful opponent.
He was promoted to the rank of master before taking his first apprentice, a human boy by the name of Kelarsu. Kel was from a outer rim planet where the force was odd and unknown and due to his abilities the boy was shunned, when he heard this, Tak immediately offered to take the boy as his padawan, feeling a connection with him from the start. Tak taught his student well, by the age of fifteen the Padawan had mastered a couple of lightsaber forms and the two had experienced many missions together, which only strengthened their bond as a master and padawan. Kel quickly grew to become a great knight, who got promoted to that rank at the age of twenty. However, Kel, having been shunned his entire life began thinking of himself as better than those who did not control the force. He began s slow descent to the dark side which Tak was not able to stop. Kel, like many other young Jedi at the time, fell to the dark side and the growing threat of the dark side Jedi became more apparent than ever in this period of time. The Third Great Schism eventually began and Tak with many other Jedi dueled the dark siders, many of which were once their allies, friends and students.
Tak had a final confrontation with his student, who at the time was already in his mid life stage. The two dueled and quickly and easily Tak defeated and sliced off his student’s hand, warning him that it was over. As Tak attempted to leave, his student jump up and pulled a lightsaber, however, Tak had sensed this and turned around in time to kill his student. The Vultar system was destroyed and the schism ended, yet Tak had remained very sullen and sad over the fate of his first student, feeling that he had failed him as a teacher. Many Jedi died during the Schism, among those that died was the Jedi Battlemaster who had taught Tak and since Tak was considered to be the most skilled and knowlagable duelists in the order at the time, he was assigned the rank of the Battlemaster. For a long time, Tak had remained the Battlemaster, teaching countless generations of Jedi the secrets of lightsaber combat and only increasing his own abilities and knowledge with the years that came. Tak was considered to be in his youth the strongest Jedi in the order, outclassing even the Grand Master. Yet, Takaa’chuwaki had a shatter point in him- his short temper and anger that dwelled within him along with the sadness that remained from the loss of many comrades, his mentor and his student.
However, wounds heal and so did Tak, over the course of several decades Tak had grown calmer, nicer and a kinder man than he had been before. For nearly four hundred, Takeo remained a part of the Jedi order, having only two other apprentices, one of them a rodian and the other a twi’lek, both of which became Jedi knights and eventually masters, yet he would still sometime be haunted by the memories of the only student he had failed. With the coming years, Tak was made a permanent member of the Jedi council, given his long lifespan and the idea that he would one day have ages of experience to pour from. Tak remained a master of lightsaber combat and had only increased his force capabilities over time, eventually learning many of the most difficult techniques in the Jedi order and mastering them.
However, when the mandalorian wars broke out, Tak was one of the first to go out to the outer rim and help the people, despite the council advocating staying out of conflict. Tak having hundreds of years of experience under his belt fought in the war, killing many mandalorians before the council give a cease and desist order to all jedi, ordering to pull back and stay out of conflict. At first, Tak did not understand but eventually grew to remember that Jedi were protectors of peace and philosophers, not soldiers. He was compliant with the Councils orders and was infuriated when Revan was not. When Revan left to fight in the mandalorian wars, Tak was one of those who agreed that Revan should be exiled from the Jedi order. However, Revan never returned and when he did, he had an army with him, beginning a war unlike any other. Wishing a more active role in leading the order and a more front line position, Tak gave up his position as a Battlemaster, feeling it was time someone taught the students a fresh perspective.
